Homemade Stew

  • 1-2 lbs stewing meat cubes
  • 1 tbsp margarine
  • 5-7 medium potatoes cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1/2 a large cabbage chopped
  • 4 medium carrots chopped
  • 1-3 small turnips cut into 1 inch cubes
  •  1 1/2 cups frozen corn niblets
  • 3-4 tbsp beef oxo
  • water
  •  2 tbsp corn starch

  • Heat a frying pan, add margarine and fry stew meat. It does not have to be cooked all the way, it is just to have some beef drippings.

Put stew meat and drippings in a crock pot.

Chop the vegetables. Add to the crock pot.

Mix beef oxo with enough water to cover the stew (but don't fill the crockpot full or it will overflow).   Turn crockpot on high. Cover with lid. Cook on high for 6 hours. Check to see if it is done.

Mix 2 tbsp corn starch with enough water to turn into a paste of medium thickness. Add to cooked stew and stir to create a thicker stew gravy.

Goes well with rice and/or homemade bread or by itself.

    Dish and serve and enjoy!
